Raymond F. Barnes
Age 78. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born May 23, 1929 in Joliet, he was the son of Frank and Edith (nee Schweizer) Barnes. A graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1946, he graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950. He worked for over 36 years as a chemist at Argonne National Laboratory, retiring in 1987. He was Plainfield Assessor from 1998 to 2006. He enjoyed working with kids, having worked for 23 years with the Plainfield Athletic Club's baseball program, band boosters and Boy Scouts. He was chairman of the Plainfield Democratic Organization, and volunteered at the Rialto Square Theater and for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Survived by his wife of 50 years, Theresa (nee Hartman); four children, Bob (Lisa) Barnes of San Diego, CA, Jim (Kareena) Barnes of Sugar Grove, IL, Edith (John) Mihelich of Joliet and Julie (Jim) Hart of Yorkville; eight grandchildren, Geoffrey, Melanie and John Barnes; Jane, Anne, Andrew and Kate Mihelich; and Emily Hart; three step-grandchildren, Sean Conroe; Katie and Kelly Hart; two sisters, Evelyn (Jack) Carlson of Palo Alto, CA, and Dolores (David) McNabb of Olney, IL; one brother, Donald (Raelene) Barnes.
Preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Helen (Alfred) Behrer.
Funeral Services for Raymond F. Barnes will be Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials in his name to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association and the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated. Visitation Friday 3-8 p.m. at:
