Norman E. Long Age 95. Passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Norman was born in St. Louis, MO and moved to Joliet with his family at an early age. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes Long; his wife, Pauline Long; and infant daughter, Jill Long; sisters, Marge Long and Loretta Sullivan; brothers, Tom, John, Barrett and Donald; sisters-in-law, Martha Long, Alice Long and Catherine Long; brothers-in-law, Judge Thomas Feehan and Jim Sullivan; niece, Betty Lou Sullivan; nephews Jack Sullivan, Tom Long, Ken Long, Mickey Long, Joseph Long, Dick Long, Kent Elwood and wonderful cousins, Nancy Merz, Dove Myer and Gloria Schopp. Survived by his brother, Robert Long and wife Marilyn; his sister, Beverly Feehan; nieces, Kerry Long, Connie Long (Richard) Myers, Erin Long (Matthew) Springman, Colleen Feehan (Ron) Richardson, Kathy Feehan (Craig) George, Bonnie Long Hooper, Sandy Long (Richard) Herberholt, Doryle Long (Peter) Maniscalco, Karen (Gary) Cono, Pam (Ray) McTague, Jane Long and Betty Long; nephews, Barrett (Jeanne) Long, Tom (Linda) Feehan, Brian Feehan, Kevin (Gina) Feehan, Dennis Long and Terry Long. Numerous great-nieces; great- nephews and great-great nieces and nephews also survive. Norman graduated from St. Raymond's grade school and De Lasalle High School. He attended Joliet Junior College. A Veteran of WWII, Norman entered the Army Air Corps in October 1942 and transferred to the 10th Armored Division in December 1943. He was an assistant Tank Driver in General Patton's Tank Corps in Germany and France until World War II ended in 1945. Norm was a Contract Negotiator for the U.S. Army ordinance at the Joliet Arsenal for many years before he retired in 1973. He then worked for several years as an administrator for the George Reiter and Associates Company. Norman traveled world wide with his wife Pauline, his sisters Marge Long and Loretta (Jim) Sullivan and his brother Don Long. He will be fondly remembered for his wardrobe of comical costumes and wonderful sense of humor. The last two and a half years, he had resided at the Timbers of Shorewood. He sincerely enjoyed his residence there, as well as the friendships, both old and new, as well as the entire staff, whom his family feels, enhanced his final years of his life. Funeral Services for Norman E. Long will be Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Entombment Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to St. Paul the Apostle Church, American Cancer Society, Joliet Area Community Hospice or Honor Flight of Chicago would be appreciated.
