Age 85, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home on her 63rd wedding anniversary. A longtime resident of Joliet, and a member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond since her marriage, she made her home most recently at Essington Place.
Born March 20, 1927 in LaSalle to John "Jack" and Bertha (nee Smudzinski) Quick, she was a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in their spring class. She worked 40 years as a registered nurse in the Obstetrics and Nursery Department at St. Joseph Hospital.
Marilyn loved being a nurse and was especially proud of being a grandmother. She will be remembered as a great Mom who did everything for her family, and was a fun person to be with.
Surviving are two daughters, Suzy (Phil) Gallo of Joliet, and Mary Beth (late Charles J.) Novak of Minooka; three grandchildren, Tony Gallo of Chicago, Carrie Ann (Larry) Bisgrove of Oswego, and Daniel (fiancée Diana) Novak of Waco, TX; two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Aliana Bisgrove; one sister, Janice (late Jake) DeWalt of Ottawa; her husband's siblings, Rose (late John) Singletary, Mary Fran (late James) Gannon, and William (Kathy) McCanna; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her beloved husband, Joseph F. McCanna (Oct. 19, 2004); her parents; and one brother, Jack Quick.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Joliet Area Community Hospice for their loving care.
Funeral services for Marilyn McCanna will be Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
