Sister Florence Niemet, OSF
Sister Florence Niemet, OSF (1916 - 2010) died peacefully at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home on February 20, 2010. Born in Chicago, IL, she was the third child born to Michael and Josephine (Mikolajczyk) Niemet. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Edward and George and her sister Emily. She is survived by her sister, Bernice Tartarowicz of Rolling Meadows, IL. Sister Florence was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 76 years.
Before entering religious life, Sister Florence was a member of St. Pascal Parish Chicago. She attended St. Pascal Grade School and graduated from St. Francis Academy ( Joliet Catholic Academy), Joliet, IL. Her education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of St. Francis (now University of St. Francis); Master of Education from The Catholic University and a Master of Education from Chicago State University. Sister Florence began her ministry in Education at St. Francis Xavier Grade School (Chicago, IL) in 1936. She spent thirty years as a teacher in Ohio and Illinois High Schools before beginning a twenty-nine year ministry in special education at Esperanza School in Chicago, IL.
The wake for Sister Florence will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Thursday morning, February 25, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, 1433 Essington Road, Joliet, IL 60435. Arrangements by:
