Obituary of Sister OSF

Sister M. Carol Ann Novak, OSF Sister M. Carol Ann Novak, OSF (1924 - 2009) died peacefully at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center on November 24, 2009. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the third child born to Charles and Anna (Arnost) Novak. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lillian Frater and her brother George Novak. She is survived by one niece, Marilyn Frater, of LaMesa, California. Sister Carol Ann was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 67 years. Before entering religious life, Sister Carol Ann attended Holy Family Grade School and St. Procop High School in Cleveland, Ohio. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from the College of St. Francis (now University of St. Francis), then attended Rosary Graduate School of Library and Information Science, River Forest, where she earned her Master of Arts in Library Science. Sister Carol Ann taught at St. Francis Academy (now Joliet Catholic Academy) from 1946 until 1964. In 1964 Sister Carol Ann became a member of the faculty of the College of St. Francis where she served as Associate Professor of Library Science and Director of Library Services. In 2002 she retired from her ministry at USF and in 2003 she became a resident at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home where her final years were devoted to prayer and community service. The wake will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Friday, November 27, 2009, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Saturday morning, November 28, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois.
