Belmonte, Sister M. Eugene, OSF
Sister M. Eugene Belmonte, OSF (1918 - 2011) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois on March 3, 2011. A native of Chicago, Illinois, she was one of seven children born to Eugene and Marie (Broccolo) Belmonte. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters: Carmela, Theresa, and Anna (Mastrangeli). She is survived by her sister, Angelina Belmonte. Sister Eugene was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 65 years.
Before entering religious life, Sister Eugene was a member of St. Callistus Parish in Chicago, OH. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Chicago, IL. Sister Eugene earned a Bachelor of Arts and Certificate from the Seraphic Institute of Theology at the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis, Joliet, IL)
Sister Eugene began a 43 year ministry in elementary education at St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Columbus, OH. She taught many years in Chicago at St. Boniface, Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Clement (11 years), SS Peter and Paul, St. Francis Assisi, St. Pascal (7 years) completing her ministry in education in 1990 at St. Constance Parish where she served for 13 years.
The wake for Sister Eugene will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Friday, March 11, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Saturday morning, March 12, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, 1433 Essington Road, Joliet, IL 60435. Arrangements by:
