"Ed"
Age 77. Passed away peacefully Thursday, May 20, 2010 at his home just two days shy of his 78th birthday, following a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born in Carlisle, PA, he was a Joliet area resident since 1962. Ed received his undergraduate degree from Murray State University and completed his Masters degree at the University of Illinois. He taught biology and coached football at Joliet Township, Joliet East, and Joliet Junior College, where he retired in 1991. Ed was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Ed's greatest loves in life were his family, friends, the Phillies and Notre Dame. He will be remembered for his passionate commitment to his family and the way he lived his life with tenatious determination. He was a lovable character who cherished special moments with his grandchildren. He was loved, admired and respected by many.
Preceded in death by his parents, George C. and Hazel Beltzhoover.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Rita (nee Ruscin); his children, Dirk Beltzhoover of Joliet, Marianne Beltzhoover of Aurora, Eric (Laurie) Beltzhoover of Joliet, Carolyn (David) Johanson of Hoffman Estates, Christine Beltzhoover (Pat) Klingler of Highlands Ranch, CO, Alex (Janet) Beltzhoover of Charlotte, NC and Gretchen (Rolf) Troha of Joliet; very proud grandfather to Jon Beltzhoover, Ryan and Rachel Beltzhoover; Christopher, Matthew, Timothy and Sara Johanson; Samantha Greben and Conner Klingler; Elizabeth Beltzhoover, and Madeline, Lukas, Erik and Ingrid Troha; one brother, Richard (Linda) Beltzhoover of Carmel, IN; five sisters, Delores (Dale) Morrow of Carlisle, PA, Kay (Elwood) Kaylor of Peoria, AZ, Janice (George) Waricher of Carlisle, PA, Carole Schwartz of Marlton, NJ and Bonita (Parker) Kuhns of Mechanicsburg, PA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services for George Edward Beltzhoover will be Monday, May 24, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. As it was Ed's request, Cremation Rites will be accorded following the funeral Mass. Private interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Cathedral of St. Raymond or Joliet Catholic Academy would be appreciated.
