Obituary of Stella Pappas

Pappas, Stella Stella Pappas born June 11, 1924, died on Monday, October 29, 2012 in her home, of natural causes. She died peacefully with family at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel G. and Marianthe "Mary" (nee Michalithou) Pappas; her sister, Helen Pappas and her sister-in-law, Irene Policandriotes Pappas. She is survived by her brother, George M. (Athena V.) Pappas of Joliet; nephew, Michael G. (Marianne) Pappas of Tybee Island, GA; niece, Barbara M. (Raymond) Pasteris of Yardley, PA, great-nephews, Julian Pappas of Brooklyn NY, and Brendan Pappas of Savannah GA; and great- nieces, Marisha Pasteris of Brooklyn NY, and Jessica (Dan) McDougal and a great-great-niece, Scarlet McDougal of Suwanee, GA. She was much more than a Thea (aunt) to her niece and nephew and great-nieces and nephews whom she nurtured with her generous heart and soul. Ms. Pappas was a life long resident of Joliet, IL. She was a graduate of Joliet Township High School, and the College of St. Francis, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She was a career employee of Uniroyal Inc. as a personnel officer at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. She worked as a volunteer at Will-Grundy Medical Clinic and Shepherds Table Soup Kitchen. Ms. Pappas was a life long member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, where she taught Sunday school for over forty years. An active member of the Daughters of Penelope, she served as an officer. Ms. Pappas enjoyed playing bridge with close friends, and was a talented artist in oils and water colors. The family wishes to thank Ms. Antonita Smith, of Excellent Home Care Givers for her care and dedication to Stella for the last two years. Funeral Services for Stella Pappas will be Saturday November 3, at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to all Saints Greek Orthodox Church for services at 11:00 a.m. Internment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be made to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund or to Joliet Area Community Hospice.
