George Henry Benigni died peacefully at his home on Friday, January 13th, 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene (nee Yanisch); five sons, Mark, Vincent, David, Paul, and Thomas; two daughters, Nancy (Neil) Hacker and Jean (Ken) Webb; seven grandchildren, Michael, Brett, Ashley, Lauren, Brooke, and Alexandra Benigni and Claire Hacker; one brother, Gerald (Kathy) Benigni.
Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Rose (Sczepaniak) Benigni.
George was very proud of his All State football and basketball achievements at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago and he continued his athletic pursuits in college at Notre Dame and Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he graduated. Because of his athletic achievements in college he was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the NFL as well as the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA. After a 27 year career as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation he retired to start a career at First National Bank of Joliet. Past member of Joliet Rotary, volunteer with I Care International, member of the Joliet Bicycle Club, and the Cathedral of St. Raymond.
Funeral Services for George H. Benigni will be Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Joliet Area Community Hospice and I Care International at 880 Bedford Rd, Morris, IL 60450. Visitation Monday 2-8 p.m. at:
