Obituary of Mary Pellegrini

Mary Lou Pellegrini (nee Shields) Age 78. Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born in Joliet, she was a lifetime area resident. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 56 years, Angelo A. Pellegrini (May 5, 2006); her parents, Hugh and Hazel Shields; a granddaughter, Erin Boley; and her sister-in-law, Marie Shields. Surviving are her children, Mark (Barbara) Pellegrini, Patricia (David) Boley, Jeanne (James) McGrath and Michael (Heidi) Pellegrini; 13 grandchildren, Julie (Joseph) Strong, Laurie (David) Ziegler, Brian Pellegrini, Phillip, Stephen and Patrick McGrath, Sara and Adam Boley, Sydney, Natasha, Rocco, Corey and Maria Pellegrini; and three great-grandsons, Matthew and Aaron Strong and Dylan Ziegler. Also surviving are one brother, Donald Shields; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary Lou was a part of St. Patrick's CCW for many years and baked many cakes and cookies for various events. She participated in the 55 Club at St. Pat's and also volunteered at the Shepherd's Table and at Provena Villa Franciscan for many years. She loved to crochet afghans and also created many hats for newborns at St. Joseph Hospital. Mercifully, her friends and caregivers from the Villa, Caroline and Beverly, were at her side shortly before she died. A special thanks to all the caregivers at the Villa, especially Caroline, Beverly, Marilyn, Lora, Jerry, Diana and several others who treated Mom with loving care and friendship in the two years she was there. Funeral Services for Mary Lou Pellegrini will be Friday, April 4, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to St. Patrick Catholic Church or St. Patrick's Adopt-A-Child Program would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday from 3-7 p.m. at: FRED C.
