Louise Phelps
(nee Malle)
Passed away peacefully Thursday morning in her home at the age of 88. Born on June 5, 1920 in Kansas, Louise grew up in Valier, IL. After moving to Crest Hill with her husband Carl and their children in 1954, she worked at the Joliet Public Library for many years, where she also enjoyed being the library storyteller for the Joliet Public Schools. She was a devoted member of Curtis Avenue Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
She is survived by her children, Tom (Bernice) Phelps, Carla Thomas, Sandy Hopper and Ron (Michele) Phelps; her grandchildren, Kris Phelps, Lynn (John) Hammel, Colin (Ashley) Hopper, Melinda (Jeff Duckworth) Thomas, Anna and Marie Phelps; her great-grandchildren, Isaac, Olivia and Owen Hopper, and Emily and Molly Hammel; one brother, Joseph (Judy) Malle; one sister, JoNell (late Everett) Graham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Carl; parents, Josef and Nellie (nee Boudoux) Malle; and sister, Connie (nee Malle) Slade.
Funeral Services for Louise Phelps will be Monday, November 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children's International, which she faithfully supported, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Visitation Sunday 2-5 p.m. at:
