Placencia, Josephine Mary
(nee Calcanas)
Passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89 on January 10, 2012. Born on March 20, 1922, in Topeka, KS. She married on November 17, 1945, at St. Mary's Catholic Church and was married for 64 years. Residing most of her life in Joliet, IL she retired from Appliance, Wiring and Components as a Supervisor.
She is survived by her son, Raymond (Kathy) Placencia and daughter, Diana Placencia-Gierich; grandchildren, Nicole (John) Saltzman, Jason Gierich (Laura DeSpain), Lisa Gierich and Kali Placencia (Sal Navarro); eight great-grandchildren, Kiley Gladkowski, Tyler Saltzman, Damon and Aaliyah Almazan and Landon Navarro; McKayla and Peyton DeSpain and Teegan Gierich; one sister Mary (Mike) Stevens; former in-laws John Gierich, Carrie Hammond and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Placencia; and son, Roberto Placencia; parents, Blas and Concepcion Calcanas; brothers, Paul, Jesus, Frank "Poncho", Fernando and Marco; sisters, Ruby Lopez and Connie Calcanas.
She was an avid bowler and a member of the Ladies Knights of Columbus.
Funeral Services for Josephine "Jo" Placencia will be on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church for Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Visitation Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at:
