Obituary of Richard Riley SR
Richard L. Riley, Sr.
Age 62, of Shorewood, died suddenly, Saturday, April 18, 2009. He was born May 27, 1946 in White Bear Lake, MN to the late Louis and Leah (Heyborne) Riley, and was raised in White Bear Lake and Norwalk, CA, where he graduated from St. Paul High School of Sante Fe Springs. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country until being honorably discharged in 1970.
Richard moved to Joliet in 1971 and was employed as Office Manager for Dr. Robert Kramer's office. He enjoyed a 40 year career in the medical field, also managing Dr. Leo Wrona's practice.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Desiree (nee DeVore); loving father of Richard, Jr. (Johna), Eryn (Steven) Buell, Tara (Kevin) Kelly and Ryan Riley; proud and devoted "Bipa" of Jordyn, Aiden and Iain Riley; Morgen and Joey Buell; Alicia Riley, Kaelyn and Fiona Kelly; Bailey and Michael Riley; fond brother of Juanita (Cecil) Grubbs, Mary (Michael) Whitmarsh, Gary (Amy) Riley and Janet (Ed) Perkins; dear son-in-law of Carol (late Al) DeVore and brother-in-law of Diane (Chuck) Clark, George DeVore, Denise (Peter) Stadther, Dee (Doug) Nies and Geoffrey (Heather) DeVore. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law.
Richard was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Assembly #204 and the Church of St. Jude, where he ushered for many years. His hobbies included woodworking, leather stamping, fishing and NASCAR, but spending time with his family, and cherishing his grandchildren is what made him happiest.
Funeral services for Richard L. Riley, Sr. will be Friday, April 24, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to the Church of St. Jude where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 4-8 p.m. at:
