Obituary of Donald Bersano
Donald D. Bersano
Age 86. Passed away peacefully at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center, Monday, January 19, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 12, 1922 in Joliet to the late Charles and Minnie (nee Buffo) Bersano, he was a lifetime resident. A graduate of Joliet Township High School, Class of 1940 and also Joliet Junior College. A U.S. WWII Army Veteran who served in the Philippines and New Guinea with the 98th Chemical Service Company. A member of VFW Stone City Post #2199, Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #300, St. Anthony's Young Peoples Club and St. Patrick's Catholic Church Young at Heart Club, where Don was a member the past 57 years. In addition, he was a former Treasurer of the Joliet Catholic Grade School Band and a Cub Scout Den Leader.
Donald managed Bersano Block Co. for many years until its closing. He was then employed by APSA (Ammunition Plant). He retired from Deaton Kennedy in Joliet, after serving them for many years. He was also employed at Polk Brothers. Most will remember Don's upbeat attitude and smile at Sam's Club where he was a greeter for the past 20 years.
Beloved husband of 61 years to Eleanore (nee Matlak); loving father of Kathleen (Robert) Delach of Joliet; Kenneth (Jacquelyn) of Minooka and Donald C. (Lisa) of Shorewood; devoted grandfather of Brian Delach, Ashley (O.J.) Lopez and Alexis Delach; Jason (Jill), Jeremy, Christopher (Katie), Julianne and Rebecca Bersano; Justin, Megan and Brittany Bersano; proud great-grandfather of Kaylie Bersano. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lorraine (late Robert) Wysocki.
The Bersano family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the physicians, nurses and staff of Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center, who were so caring and compassionate during Don's illness.
Funeral Services for Donald D. Bersano will be Friday, January 23, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Patrick Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. In lieu of flowers, Masses would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. at:
