Obituary of Richard Schweickert
Richard J. "Dick" Schweickert
Age 74, of Morris, IL, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the Morris Hospital. He was born June 12, 1936, in Ladd, IL to the late Paul and Marion (Weatherall) Schweickert, he was raised in Ladd, graduating from Hall High School in 1954, where he was quarterback of the football team. He received a bachelor degree in Engineering from Bradley University in 1958 and upon graduating, he joined Chamlin and Associates, and opened the Morris office where he was a former part owner for many years. Dick was also City Engineer in Morris for almost 50 years, receiving an award for his continued and distinguished service.
He was the beloved husband of 49 years to Judy (Bonucci), whom he married May 6, 1961. Loving father of Susan (Bruce) Matteson of Morris, IL, Michael (Susan) Schweickert of Fishers, IN, and Diane (Michael) Nekritz of Lindenhurst, IL. Proud grandfather of Tyler, Amy and Jason Matteson; Hannah Schweickert; Alyssa and Erica Nekritz. Fond brother of the late Paul (late Carol) Schweickert, Jr., Thomas (Ann) Schweickert of Collinsville, IL, Gerald "Ozzie" (Barb) Schweickert of Ladd, IL, Bill (Barb) Schweickert of Metamora, IL, and Doug (Rory) Schweickert of Peru, IL. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Dick, was a very active, community minded man, and member of the Morris Community Foundation, former director of the First Midwest Bank and a past owner of Nettle Creek Golf Course. Interests and hobbies included fishing, playing cards, attending Chicago Bulls and Cubs games and the lively conversation of the coffee clubs. However, nothing made him happier than spending time with his grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dick Schweickert will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 516 E. Jackson Street, Morris, where visitation will be held Monday, February 28, 2011, from 3-8 pm as well as Tuesday morning from 9 am until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 10 am. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dick's name may be made to Morris Hospital Foundation, Morris Community Foundation or Immaculate Conception Building Fund.
