Opal E. Shearer
(nee Phelps)
Age 91, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Friday September 17, 2010 at Walnut Grove Nursing Home in Morris.
She was born November 21, 1918 in Lee, Kentucky to the late George and Rosa (nee Brooks) Phelps. A resident of Minooka from 1947 to 1954, moving to Joliet where she had resided the remainder of her life.
Survived by her daughter, Edie (Charles) Herzberger of Minooka; granddaughters, Robyn (Danny) Clennon of Minooka and Dawn (Jack) Dempsay of North Carolina; step-grandchildren, Mary (Mark) Dempsey of Minooka, Mark (Jamie) Herzberger and Sue (Joe) Petrovic both of Channahon; great grandchildren, Erik and Chelsea Fritz and Patrick Dempsay; step great grandchildren, Dane Dempsey, Jacob and Taylor Petrovic, Rachel and Blake Herzberger and Ashley Butler. Also survived by her brothers, James, O.C. and Troy Phelps and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Elvin, son Elvin Jr., step grandson James Herzberger,her parents and siblings.
Opal retired from St. Joseph Medical Center after many years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting the River boat Casino, where she would insist she won nearly every trip.
Funeral services for Opal E. Shearer will be held Monday September 20, 2010 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the Poor Clares Annunciation Monastery, Minooka, would be appreciated. Visitation Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the services begin at:
