Obituary of Robert Smego SR

Robert J. Smego, Sr. Age 83. Passed away Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 15, 1924 in Joliet, to Joseph and Margaret (nee Reed) Smego, he was a World War II Veteran of the Army Air Force. He worked for Prudential Insurance as a sales manager, retiring in 1979. Bob and his wife then moved to Chetek, WI where they spent 27 years, returning to Joliet in 2006. He was a lifetime member of VFW Cantigny Post #367, and the Chetek Lions Club, serving 25 years as treasurer. Surviving are his beloved wife, Martha L. (nee Addington) Smego; two daughters, Carol (Sam) Brandolino of Shorewood, and Barbara (Harry "Buzz") Dinoffria of Joliet; one son, Robert J. (Sandy) Smego, Jr. of Joliet; two stepchildren, Russell (Barbara) Smith of Oswego, and Martha Ann (Allan) Yarmer of Verona; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and two step-great- grandchildren. Preceded by his first wife, Geraldine (nee Mitchell) Smego (1965); his parents; his stepfather, Andrew Schwerha; and one sister, Irene Clark. The family would like to thank the staff of the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home for all their help and support. Funeral Services for Robert J. Smego, Sr. will be Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to the Church of St. Jude for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
