Obituary of Sister Straub

Straub, Sister Grace, OSF Sister Grace Straub, OSF (1934-2012) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois on October 22, 2012. Born in Mansfield, Ohio, she was one of five children born to Edwin and Alta (Kirkpatrick) Straub. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Philip and her sister, Rita Ann Roycraft. She is survived by her sisters, Helen Sevits and Patricia Straub of Mansfield, Ohio. Sister Grace was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 59 years. Before entering religious life, Sister Grace was a member of St. Peter Parish in Mansfield, Ohio, and graduated from the Parish Grade and High Schools. Sister Grace earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis) Joliet, Illinois, with a major in Sociology. Sister Grace began her ministry in the field of education in 1955 at St. Ann Parish in Lansing, Illinois, where she taught Grades 1 and 3. She then returned to Ohio to teach Grade 1 at St. Michael Parish, Worthington. In 1962 Sister began a 10 year ministry as a missionary in Santa Helena and Goiânia, Brazil. In 1974 she returned to the United States and ministered in the field of education for 32 more years in grade schools in Ohio, including 18 years at St. Peter, Mansfield, teaching Grade 3. The wake for Sister Grace will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Friday, October 26, 2012, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Saturday morning, October 27, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois.
