Suste, Joseph Robert "Joe" "Grandpa" Age 92. Passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Joliet on February 12, 1919, the eldest of six children, to George and Mary (nee Knezetich) Suste. He raised his own family of six children with his wife Agnes (nee Ballun) Suste. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in France and Italy, and was a courageous hero of the invasion of Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1933. He retired from the E.J.&E Railway after 30 years, working mostly swing and graveyard shifts as Yardmaster in the Joliet yard. In addition to his career at "The J", he worked in construction, television and radio repair, and building maintenance. Everyone knew that one of Joe's talents was he "could fix anything". He loved dancing and music, and played piano, organ and accordion "by ear", never having taken a lesson. He was beloved and always looked up to as the head of the family by his five brothers and sisters, and very much loved by his entire family. Survived by his loving companion of 18 years, Dolores Luzbetak; her daughters, Linda Luzbetak and Rosemary (Steve) Stewart and their families; two sons, Joseph (Cherie) Suste and Brian (Diane) Suste; three daughters, Valerie (late Paul) Kavlick, Carol (David) Parker, and Louise (Randy) Kolb; 12 grandchildren, Brad Suste, Mark (Stacie) Suste, Jason (Jessica) Kolb, Christina Kolb, Jeremy Kolb, Skylar Suste, Paige Suste, Agnes Kavlick, Raymond Kavlick, Alex Bolte, Michael Bolte and Taylor Bolte; two great-grandchildren, Donovan and Leah Kolb; brother, Raymond (late Ann) Suste; son-in-law, J.R. Bolte; and numerous nieces, nephews and caring friends. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Agnes (nee Ballun) Suste; his daughter, Marie (William) Byerley (1991); sisters, Lucille (late Robert) Nasenbeny, Dolores (late Charles) Traven, and Lorraine (late James) Maccono; and one brother, John (late Ann) Suste. Funeral Services for Joseph Robert Suste will be Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Mary Nativity Cemetery.
