Age 82. Monday, April 11, 2011 at Provena Villa Franciscan. Born in Joliet, he was a life long resident. A United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. Retired from Universal Lockport Company as Vice President, following 40 years of service. Member of St. Jude Catholic Church. An avid golfer and fisherman.
Survived by his wife, Anne "Joan" (nee McKeon) Vollmer of Joliet; four children, James J. (Emi) Brown of Redondo Beach, CA, Michael P. (Jeanine) Vollmer of Joliet, Susan (John) Reed of Shorewood and Sharon (Jack) Tweedle of Shorewood; six grandchildren, Kelly and Eric Brown; Jeffrey and Michelle Reed; Jamie and Beckie Tweedle; sisters-in-law, Pauline (John deceased) Pucel and Rosylee (Jerry) Menozzi; numerous nieces, nephews and his little buddy, Murphy Reed who barked happy hello's and cuddled on his lap.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Vollmer; three brothers, Ed, John and Ray Vollmer; one sister, Dorothy Boden.
A Memorial Mass for LaVerne J. Vollmer will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Jude, 2212 McDonough Street, Joliet. As it was Chips' request, Cremation Rites have been accorded. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Catholic Church of Joliet, or Joliet Area Community Hospice. Visitation will take place at the church SATURDAY MORNING from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by:
