Martin A. Warmbier
"Marty"
Age 93. Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home. Born January 5, 1917 in Euclid, MN, he moved with his family at the age of seven to Joliet, IL. Graduated from Joliet Township High School Class of 1935. Served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Retired from Northern Illinois Gas Company in 1985. Member of Plainfield United Methodist Church since 1955.
Survived by his wife of 68 years, Marian (nee Hall); sons, James M. (Cindy) of Plainfield and Paul (Sue) of Plymouth, MI; daughters, Carole (Chris) Bayer of Plainfield, and Deborah (Michael) Rouser of Versailles, KY; sister, Gerda Thorsen of Joliet; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Clara (nee Reisdorf); sisters, Edna Hanson and Inga Stapleton; and brothers, Otto and Harry.
Martin enjoyed bowling and was the oldest member of the senior bowling league. He also enjoyed fishing, nature, and yard work.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sunny Hill Nursing Home for their excellent and compassionate care, Joliet Area Community Hospice for the assurance of respect and dignity for Marty, while providing loving support to the family, and our deepest gratitude to home caregivers, Deanna Pingle and Heidi O'Laughlin of Senior Helpers for their generosity, devotion and friendship, allowing for the fulfillment of the wishes of our parents to remain in their beloved home together as long as possible.
Funeral Services for Martin A. Warmbier will be Tuesday, Feburary 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials to Plainfield United Methodist Church, Friends of Sunny Hill, Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Wounded War Veterans of America would be appreciated. Visitation Monday 2-8 p.m. at:
