Wells, Maurice I.
Age 93. Passed away Sunday, February 18, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Born in Emmetsburg, IA to Elmer M. Wells and Gertrude V. (nee Illingworth) Wells. He was a resident of Brandon Wood Retirement Center in Morton, IL for the past six years. A graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1936, Joliet Junior College Class of 1939, Naval Air Training Pensacola FL 1941. He served as a Fighter Pilot with the U.S. Navy from 1942-1943. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals. He worked for the United States Government his entire career, with the U.S. Navy, the Civil Aeronautics Administration and the Veterans' Administration. The last 21 years of his career, he was Top Civilian Procurement Officer. Retired in 1971 as GS-15 Level Civilian Federal Employee at the Ammunition Procurement and Supply Agency (APSA) Joliet, IL.
Survived by his two daughters, Wendy (Martin) Helmer of Morton, IL, and Jacqueline (Thomas) Legner of Crest Hill; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and dear friend and companion, June Kramer of Morton.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine Merideth (nee Speicher) (1971); second wife, Alice Michela (nee Long); and one brother, Richard E. Wells.
Private Graveside Services will be held at Elmhurst Cemetery. Arrangements by:
