Obituary of Kenneth Whitman
Kenneth H. Whitman
Age 80, of Crest Hill, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with his family by his side.
Born July 22, 1930 in Oakland City, IN, he was a graduate of Oakland City High School, Olivet Nazarene College, and the University of St. Francis. He retired from Caterpillar, Inc., after 35 years of service, working as a time study supervisor. He also taught math and computer science for 11 years at the University of St. Francis and Joliet Junior College. His final legacy for the past two years was serving as Pastor to the residents of Essington Place, where the "Ken Whitman Memorial Chapel" was named in his honor.
Ken was a 50 year member of Grace United Methodist Church where he loved being confirmation teacher to many young people. He was also an active volunteer with many organizations, and was a 32nd degree member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed family, traveling, computer work, good food, picnics at his daughter's house, and talking with people.
Surviving are his loving wife, Sarah E. (nee Thompson) Whitman; his devoted daughter, Cheri (Gerry) Troxel of Channahon; one precious granddaughter, Mallory Troxel; one brother-in law, Robert (Gayle) Thompson of Channahon; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Bud) Houchins and Jean (Bob) Benjamin, both of Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, Cleon and Ermal (nee Harkness) Whitman, and his in-laws, Carl and Ola Thompson.
Memorial Services for Kenneth H. Whitman will be Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Joliet. The Rev. Michael Hickok will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the church. Interment will be private. Memorials to Grace United Methodist Church or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Arrangements by:
