Obituary of M. OSF SR

Sr. M. Marcelyn Adams, OSF Of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, died at RML Specialty Hospital, Hinsdale, on August 31, 2007, at the age of 79. She was a member of the Joliet Franciscans for 57 years. Sister Marcelyn was born in Joliet, baptized Mary Ann, and grew up in and attended schools in Joliet. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary (Kurimyan) Adams; sisters Margaret Ferro, Sr. Miriam, SSpS, Sr. Veronica, OSF, and brother John. She is survived by her sister Loretta (Jack) Thomas, nieces June Persicketti, Diane Hafner, Marcelyn Theobald, Janis Cladis, nephew John Thomas, and her Joliet Franciscan sisters. Sister Marcelyn earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the College of St. Francis, Joliet. She taught in elementary schools in Ohio and Illinois from 1952 to 1967. In 1968 Sr. Marcelyn moved to Guardian Angel Home, where she ministered until soon before her death. Over these four decades Marcelyn was part of the fabric of Guardian Angel Home, serving in many capacities: child care worker, health service coordinator, administrative aide and receptionist. She never met a challenging child with whom she could not work. The wake will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Thursday, September 6, 2007, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be Friday, September 7, at 9:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Angels to Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
