John A. Wirth
"Buddy" "Bud"
Age 89. At rest Tuesday, April 3, 2012 under the care of Hospice of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ. Born and raised in Joliet on August 10, 1922, he resided in the Joliet/Troy Twp. area all his life. Attended Joliet Township High School. A WWII U.S. Marine Corp veteran serving from January 1942 until February 1946. He was attached to the First Marine Division Fleet Marines Advanced Forces and served in the South Pacific with the Marine Aviation Forces (Blacksheep Squadron). He was honorably discharged at the rank of Master Technical Sergeant. Formerly employed by Blockson Chemical Company (Olin-Mathieson) from June 1951 to September 1974 in maintenance mechanics and a crane operator. In 1974 he became a maintenance man for the then, new Joliet Junior College Campus, until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Wirth was an avid hunter and fisherman, who took great pride in his home and property.
Surviving are his two daughters, Mary Ruth Wirth of Troy Township and Linda (late Dr. George) Hill of Marshfield, WI; four grandchildren, Christopher (Julie) Hill of Oshkosh, WI, Zachary (Lindsay) Hill of Coon Rapids, MN, Allistair E. (Joshua) Esser of Marshfield, WI and Verity (Cody Weber) Hill of Marshfield, WI; three great-grandchildren, Lydia Hill, Gabriel Hill and George Henry Hill; one sister, Elizabeth Jane (late George) Anderson of Salem, OR; his sister-in-law, Jeanette (late Russell) Beane of Plattville, IL; numerous nieces and nephews including Jeffrey (Carolyn) Dement and Kay (Ronald) Schmidt; and several cousins also survive. He will be deeply missed by the Nelda Radakovich Family.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane C. (nee Janda) Wirth; parents, Arthur F. Wirth and Ruth A. (nee Foster) Wirth-Beane; two sisters, Vivian R. (John Judge and William Paul) and Shirley M. (Marvin Dement and George Provance).
Funeral Services for John A. Wirth will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Mary Catholic Church, Minooka for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Hills of Rest Cemetery.
