Sister Irene (Walter) Wlodarski, OSF Of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, died at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet, on June 15, 2008, at the age of 87. She was a member of the Joliet Franciscans for 71 years. Sister Irene was born in Joliet. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Rosalia (Janicki) Wlodarski; sisters Mary Wlodarski, Anna Gorski, Sr. Charitas, OSF, Helen Hasse, and brothers Leo, Felix, Peter, Steven, Edward and John. She is survived by nieces and nephews and her Joliet Franciscan sisters. Sister Irene graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the College of St. Francis, Joliet, and a Master of Arts in Latin from DePaul University. She also participated in numerous workshops and other professional development opportunities. She was an elementary school teacher for 19 years in schools in Chicago before becoming a high school Latin teacher in Chicago and Ohio. Sr. Irene taught English and Latin at St. Francis Academy in Joliet from 1969 to 1990. In her semi-retirement at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, she worked as a tutor. Sr. Irene enjoyed retirement since 2002. The wake will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be Thursday, June 19, at 8:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Angels to Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
