Obituary of Charles Boyer

Boyer, Charles Lyle, Jr. Formerly of Toledo Ohio, died peacefully on December 16, 2012, at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home in Joliet IL. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 65 years Virginia; his daughter, Barbara J. Sanzenbacher; his father, Charles L. Boyer Sr.; his mother, Gertrude VanCamp Boyer; his brothers, Richard E. (Patsy) , James F. (Carol), Joseph E. (Donna); his sister, Elizabeth J. (Arnold) Skiver. He is survived by sons, Charles A., David M. (Bobbie), and Donald E. (Danita); daughter, Elizabeth J. (E.J.) Leizerman, 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Thomas L. and Paul A. (Jamie) Boyer; and sisters, Rita (Eugene) Haberman, Sr. Roberta (Helen) O'Cist., and Sr. Lourdes (Mary Edna) O.S.F.. Charles attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1939. He worked for Libby Owens Ford Glass Company from 1939 until his retirement in 1983, with a three and one half year military break. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942, serving in the Pacific fleet in the Aleutians as well as Pearl Harbor. He met his future wife Virginia Elizabeth White in Seattle, Washington, and married her on December 29, 1945. After his discharge from the Navy he returned to Toledo Ohio with his wife, and bought a home at 32 Jervis Street where the family lived for 48 years. The Day before Thanksgiving in 1993 they moved into their new home in Brandon, Florida, where they remained until Virginia's passing on November 29, 2010. Charles moved to Our Lady of Angels in February 2011. Charles was a devoted husband and father, an avid fisherman and golfer. He loved to sing, having performed with the choir at Immaculate Conception as well as local choral groups and the Toledo Opera Company, where he sang as a cast member in numerous Operas. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL. Private interment at Calvary Cemetery chapel, where he will be laid to rest with his wife, mother and father.
