Fred W. Breen
Age 83, of Joliet, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Joliet, he was a lifetime area resident. A United States WWII Navy Veteran. Retired Police Chief with the Joliet Police Department. Life member of VFW Cantigny Post #367; member of the American Legion Post #1080 and the IACP, Will County Chief's Association. Member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret T. (nee Reiter) Breen (1991); his parents, James V. and Helen (nee Friedrich) Breen; brother, Lawrence Breen; one sister, Helen Wirth.
Survived by his loving wife, Shirley M. (nee Mayfield) Breen of Joliet; three sons, Lawrence F. (Kathleen) of Braidwood, Michael (Mary) of Alpharetta, GA and Stephen (Melissa) of Joliet; two daughters, Nancy (Leo) Korczak of Plainfield and Maureen Mahalick of Joliet; and Sheree (Bob) Stilwell of Shorewood and Michael (Lynn) Herrington of Yorkville; 23 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (late Morris) O'Neill of Bremerton, WA and Alice (Fred) Zilly of Aurora; one brother, Patrick J. (Dagmar) Breen of Channahon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services for Fred W. Breen will be Monday, March 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield. Visitation Sunday 2-8 p.m. at:
