We are deeply saddened by Mikes passing but are thankful that the Lord allows us so many wonderful memories. His warm smile and sense of humor will always remain in our thoughts. Our prayers are for the Assaf family as God continues to shape, mould and care for you.
Mr. Assaf was one of the most inspiring teachers at our school. His energetic stories made even math an extremely enjoyable time. His influence in the lives of his students will never be forgotten. He will be dearly missed.
"Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for years to come." Michael you will always be remembered as a kind soul with a good and decent heart. Michael's spirit lives on through his children's eyes and his kind and loving ways have been imprinted on their souls. Michael we love you and will always remember you.
We'll always remember the smiling face Michael that brought to the world as a friend, as a neighbor and as someone we were all so blessed to know. He brightened the room when he entered, and left us all the better for the chance to know and care about him.
I met Mike Assaf, my senior year of college while he was a young freshman, he was one of the special ones-genuine, caring, down to earth and truly enjoyed everything about life. If you were around him for 5 minutes its as you knew him a lifetime. Life puts people on different paths. The years went by and I was blessed to reconnect with Mike again on FB. For the past few years, he bust my chops on... my posts, we commented on the wonders of being fathers and shared stories about fratenity brothers that are now around the globe. Mike never stopped being that special one, he loved his wife, his children, his teaching profession, his coaching-everything he did with same unmatchable passion and everything he touched was better for it. His passion for life, his optimism, his love for any and all was always something that was an amazing endearing quality that was the gold standard to aspire too. Today, his battle with cancer is over, may he find eternal peace over the physical peace he could not. His measure- a soul mate in a wife, four beautiful children, family, friends and many more that will forever be blessed for knowing him. Mike Assaf, an eternal example of what defines a magnificient human being. Let us remember and pay tribute by aspiring to the passions that Mike held so dear. You will be missed. Rest now my friend, find peace. -Tony
Mr. Assaf you were the best math teacher I've had, you made me actually like going to math class everyday. I will always remember and cherish the memories shared with you, and forever hold them close to my heart. My prayers go out to your family. May the force be with you.
Reflecting on the first time I met Mike, as he interviewed for a math position at MCHS, I knew that he was the right person for the MCHS family. I saw a confident, but not smug, young man, who defintely knew mathematics. More importantly, however, I saw a person who cared for students and who would work tirelessly to help them achieve and surpass their personal goals. Mike exuded an infectious passion for teaching, and as I have worked with aspiring teachers and administrators, I always looked for Mike's spark.
In the coming days, months, and years, may God hold the Assaf and MCHS families in His hands and provide the strength, wisdom, and courage to persevere. Mike has left a void in all of our hearts, but we have a lasting impression of one who practiced his faith and served as a mentor to all.
I remember all the stories you told us in class, and the way you gave out bonus Star Wars questions at the end of tests. You were a great teacher and one of my favorites, you will be dearly missed.
You are all continually in our hearts and prayers. May the love of family, friends and our Lord continue to provide you with strength and peace.
I am honored to have been able to teach with Michael at West Chicago High School. He was a great teacher, loved by all. My thoughts and prayers are with the Assaf family at this difficult time. Rest in peace Michael.
May Mike live on through you and your children. He was truly a great man who will be missed by so many. He will always be a big part of your heart and he will be watching over you until you meet again for eternity. May God Bless You and Bring You Peace.
Our hearts ache for the loss the Assaf family is going through. Mike was taken way to early and I would have loved the chance to have known him better. Seeing him at the kids baseball games and practices, I can tell how wonderful and caring he was as a father. He has touched many lives and will live on in their hearts through their memories. Your children will have the most amazing guardian angel in their corner. Mike is no longer in pain and is now at peace. Celebrate his life. Continued prayers for you and the family.
May God's strength be upon you all during this time. Mike was an inspirational person and teacher, with his amazing heart and talent for teaching. The students/faculty loved his quick-witted humor, family stories, random trivia knowledge, and kindness to whoever crossed his path.
Mike and the Assaf family will always be loved and a part of the MCHS math family.
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded.

I met Mikey in Highschool (Glenbard West)and came to get to know him through our IMPACT Youth Group. I'll always remember his outgoing, vibrant, fun-loving, goofy, sweet and wonderful spirit. He was truly the best of the best. I will always fondly remember Highschool Prom 1991, SEARCH, YLC, Hilltopper Football Games, and Tasty Dawg. I love you Mikey.
The Force is in all of us now Mikey. You will forever be missed and always be loved. May your Force keep us all as strong as you are. You fought the good fight Mikey and I'm so sorry you were called home. I wish speedy healing on your friends and family. Love you Mikey!!!
Mike, may you be enjoying God's peace and grace at this very moment. To Mike's family, God's strong, loving arms are around you now, and they always will be. May you feel their comfort throughout your lives. Mike was loved by students, teachers, and friends all around him for the caring, sincere, funny man that he was, and everyone KNOWS the deep, affectionate love that he always felt for his family...It will last forever.
You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.
Michael always made me feel so loved and welcome, his perfect heart will be sorely missed. I pray that Anna and the children will find peace someday. I love you all.
We love you Mike! You have been a beloved member of our family ever since our son, Chris, had the good fortune to marry into the wonderful Assaf family. We enjoyed your company at many family events. Nothing will be the same without your positive, happy, smiling face! Love you, Mikey!!!
Michael was a kind woderful loving family man who was taken too soon from his family and friends. He will be forever in our hearts and we will remember him as the laughable, huggable fun loving person and miss him daily.
There are individuals that come and go, friends that stay and some that fade. Michael Assaf to us was the kind that came, and stayed. He has remained since early on a mentor and guide for our own lives and marriage. A beacon of life done right in his relationships, his friendship and commitment to the betterment of others through his careful teaching. Our lives will all be less without his, but so much more because of it, just the same. God lift up his soul, and lay His hands upon his family that will have to wait for the reunion of a one of a kind love. Visible to all by even a single glance. How appropriate that the posting requirement for this dialogue is a math question, it must be just for him.

Goodbye, Mike. Though we all now grieve for the loss of a good man and feel sorrow for your family and each other, we can now also celebrate your life and the positive influence you had on countless people in your life. You did more in 38 years than most do in 80. Keep working hard and having fun.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who knew and loved Michael Assaf. May you have the Lord by your side as you begin the journey of healing.
The days are a little darker
But the stars are a little brighter.
Our hearts are sad and heavy
But we hold each other tighter.
Today we mourn a man
Whose life made others better
And even in his passing
Has brought us all together.
You will be greatly missed. Nick only had you as a teacher for a few short weeks & you touched his life & influenced him more than any other teacher ever has. Rest in peace.
