Obituary of Neil Janssen

Neil F. Janssen Age 77. Of Shorewood, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 after a short illness. Born January 21, 1936 in Coleridge, Nebraska to Arnold and Mildred (nee Hubbard) Janssen. Preceded in death by his father; and sister, Mary Ann Ferguson. Survived by his mother, Mildred Janssen; his wife of 55 years, Anna (nee Zentarski) Janssen; three sons, John, Sr., Douglas and Phillip (Dawn) Janssen; two daughters, Michelle and Brenda (Jim) Lutz; 13 grandchildren, Dawn (Phil) Jurek, John R. (Jessica) Janssen, Jr., Shaun Denzinger, Kurt Kuehni, Jr., Cara and Adam Denzinger, Chris (Erin) Lutz, Kimberly (Mark) Malone, Magen Lutz, David Janssen, Melissa (Tommy) Caggiano, Kristine (Tyler) DeLoach and Ashley Lloyd; eight great-grandchildren, Phillip and Amber Jurek, Ava and Landen Lutz, Marissa, Marla and McKenna Malone and Jayna Ferrito; brother, Stanley (JoAnn) Janssen of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law, Thomas Zentarski of Joliet; aunt, Gladys Fleener of Coleridge, NE; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Neil was retired from Caterpillar where he worked in Plant Security for 25 years. He also managed at Zayre store for five years. He served on the Troy Volunteer Fire Department for 38 years and was Assistant Chief for 28 years. A charter member of MABAS Division 15 Cause and Origin Team. For many years he taught Fire Prevention at the Troy Schools during Fire Prevention Week. He was a member of the Joliet Elks #296 and of Holy Family Parish. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Funeral Services for Neil Janssen will be Monday, March 11, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet to Holy Family Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
