Obituary of Robert Miller

Robert A. Miller "Bob" Age 60, of Joliet, and a relative of numerous Decatur area residents, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born August 3, 1952 in Pontiac, IL, he was a lifelong Joliet resident. Bob served the City of Joliet Police Department for 30 years as Master Patrolman, retiring in 2007. He served as Officer Friendly for many years. Bob also taught G.R.E.A.T. and DARE in the Joliet schools, was a Coach for Police Athletic League (PAL), and participated in the Shop with a Cop Program. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #58, Joliet Moose Lodge #300, and the Joliet Elks Lodge #296. Bob was an avid golfer, participating in the Thursday Thirsty Night Golf League, and also enjoyed bowling, fishing and cooking. Survived by his loving wife, Edythe E. (nee Johnston) Miller; his children, Kristin L. (Aaron) Nash, Nicholas C. Miller and John R. Miller, all of Joliet; his wife's siblings, Russell L. (Sue) Johnston, Martha M. (Bill) Seemann, Ronald D. Johnston, Dorn R. Johnston III, and Lynn E. (Joe) Enich; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Eldon R. (2008) and Doris P. "Pauline" (nee Conner) (2009) Miller; his wife's parents, Dorn R., Jr. (2011) and Helen (nee Bjekich) Johnston (2010); maternal grandparents, George L. and Dora Ann (nee Talkington) Conner; and paternal grandparents, Samuel and Edna (nee Ostrander) Miller. Our family is very grateful to Joliet Oncology/Hematology Associates, Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home (OLA), and Joliet Area Community Hospice for their wonderful, compassionate care of Bob. Visitation for Robert A. Miller will be Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet.
