Obituary of Frank Turk
Turk, Frank J. Jr.
Age 83. Passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Joliet, Frank was born on September 1, 1929 to Frank Sr. and Margaret (nee D'Arcy) Turk. He was a graduate of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School and the College of St. Thomas. He was a U.S. Army veteran, proudly serving his country in Korea as a Sergeant. A board member of St. Joseph Hospital, First Community Bank, Will County Center for Economic Development, Joliet Regional Airport Authority, Cathedral of St. Raymond, George Werden-Buck Boys and Girls Club, Downtown Development Council, and Trustee of University of St. Francis. Member of the Joliet Regional Chamber of Commerce, Old Timers Baseball Association, the Rotary Club and was the recipient of several civic and community awards. He was a proud member of the Benson A.C. Founder and part owner of the Oakwood Swim Club. A lifelong White Sox fan. Frank was the retired owner/operator of a family owned business, Turk Furniture, who put his heart and soul into his business, family and community.
Frank enjoyed flying his plane, trips to White Lake, snow skiing and playing handball.
In 1955 he married Joanne Downey, together they had five children who survive him, Frank (Sarah) Turk of Joliet, Elizabeth (David) Runberg of Colorado, Michael (GiGi) Turk of Plainfield, Stephen (Jackie Gillespie Horvat) Turk of Joliet, John (Tara) Turk of Florida, two brothers, Don (Harriet), and Joe (Lois) Turk; one sister, Suzanne (late Robert) Wright; grandchildren, Shea, Megan, Frank and Jack Turk; David and Zachary Runberg; Austin, Andrew, Ryan and Elizabeth Turk; Jessica, John and Katherine Turk; one brother-in-law John (Sue) Manner; and sister-in-law, Julie Manner; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Suzanne (nee Manner) Turk (2009); his parents; his brother-in-law, Bob Manner.
Funeral Services for Frank J. Turk, Jr. will be Monday, April 29, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, Suzy's Caring Place at the Guardian Angel Home or the charity of your choice in Frank's name would be appreciated.
