Obituary of Robert Franzen
Robert G. "Bobby" Franzen
Age 71, of Morris, IL, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, May 28, 2013 with family by his side.
He was born September 27, 1941 in Aurora, IL to Vivian (nee Benedict) and the late John Franzen. Bobby was raised in Joliet and attended Joliet Catholic and Joliet Township High School. He was a United States Navy Veteran and an Operating Engineer and Master Mechanic with Union Local #150, who retired in 1997 after over 40 years of service.
Beloved husband of 51 years to "the love of his life" Genevieve (nee Krasovic) Franzen; loving father of Joseph Franzen of Joliet and Christine Contreras of Morris. Proud grandfather and father figure to Genelle and Jacob Contreras both of Morris. Dearest son of Vivian Appleberg of Morris; fond brother of James (Joan) Franzen of Morris; brother-in-law of Jerry (Illiana) Krasovic of Joliet and Betty (John) Moody of Vicksburg, MS. Several aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his father and two step-brothers, Danny and Charles Appleberg.
Mr. Franzen enjoyed several hobbies, including fishing, drag racing events and tending to his vegetable garden, but aside from his family, his greatest passions were racing pigeons (member of American Racing Pigeon Union, Inc), and restoring nostalgic hot-rods.
Bobby had a big heart and was a very unique and caring person. Once you met him, you were a friend for life.
