Obituary of Joseph Slattery
Joseph Leo Slattery
Age 91, of Morris and formerly of Kinsman, IL, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Walnut Grove Nursing Home.
Born in the family farmhouse in Kinsman, July 26, 1921, the son of Elizabeth and William Slattery. He attended a one room schoolhouse in Kinsman and graduated from Mazon High School in 1939. He was engaged in farming, both grain and livestock until he retired in 1984 and moved to Morris.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ellen (nee Cahill); stepson, Jeffrey Cahill; granddaughter, Rachel (Jason) Halverson; two great grandchildren, Brionna and Blake; one sister, Monica (late Raymond) Drinan and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marie (late Wilfred) Harty; four brothers, William (late Rose), Robert (Dolores), Francis (Norma) and Thomas (late Rita) Slattery.
Joe was a former road commissioner for Highland Township and member of the Elks, Eagles and Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Church in Kinsman. He enjoyed bingo, dancing, reading and playing cards.
As it was Joe's wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Memorials can be made to Grundy County Hospice, MVK Senior Citizens or Immaculate Conception Church. Arrangements by:
