James O. McTague
Age 94. Passed away August 7, 2013 at Valley Hi Nursing and Rehabilitation center in Woodstock, IL. He was born October 12, 1918 to homesteading, farming parents William Leo McTague and Elizabeth Ann Powers in Flandreau, S.D. He was the second of three children. William Sylvester, his older brother, and Mary Mavis, his younger sister, have both preceded him in death.
James or "Orlo", as his friends knew him, was a son of the depression and dust bowl. He left home in his early teens to help his family financially working on farms, his uncle's hotel in Dennison, IA and for the CCC's. He eventually settled long enough in Joliet to meet, and eventually, marry his lifelong partner of 71 years, Mary (Killelea) McTague, who survives him.
He worked in the Joliet arsenal during the Second World War and eventually Olin Chemical Corp where he retired as a foreman. He built his own home and raised ten children with Mary; JoAnne Buss; Wilma Francis Trainor; Robert McTague (deceased); Dorothy Jones; Judith Kelly; James McTague; Margaret Alimo; Raymond McTague; Elizabeth Stimac (deceased) and Kathleen Curran. He is survived by numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
James was a lifelong member of the Moose Club and St. Raymond's Cathedral parish. May he rest in the Peace of the Lord and Savior.
Funeral Services for James O. McTague will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
