Obituary of Kenneth Anderson

Kenneth R. Anderson, Sr. Age 80, of Joliet, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013. Born October 19, 1932 in Mason, IL to the late Raymond and Nellie (nee Reilly) Anderson. He attended Wilmington High School and the University of Illinois. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War proudly assigned to the U.S.S. Bennington CVA 20. He retired from Nicor after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George (Ilah Faye) and Richard; two sisters, Emma (Jay) Mayfield and Mary Lou (Pete) Rollins; brother-in-law, Howard Hodina; his in-laws, John and Mary (nee Higgins) Davito. Survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Patricia (nee Davito); two sons, Dr. Kenneth (Dr. Rosemary) Anderson, Jr. and James Anderson; proud grand "poppa" of four caring grandchildren, Adam, Karly, Bridget and Katharine Anderson; sister, Virginia Hodina; brother, Charles Anderson; sister-in-law, Fran Anderson; very fond brother-in-law to Marilyn (Richard) Campbell, Diane (John) Bohrer; brothers-in-law, Donald Davito, Jack (Ginny) Davito and Karen Taylor; and also numerous nieces, nephews and friends. An avid Cubs fan, he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and dear friend to many. He was truly a blessing to his family and, most of all, a good and honorable man. Ken will always be known for bringing a smile to everyone's face with his incredible sense of humor. A Celebration of Ken's life will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. As it was Ken's request, Cremation Rites will be accorded following the funeral mass. Private interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.
