Obituary of Herman Welch

Herman Francis Welch "Fran" "Bubba" Age 93. On Wednesday, December 18, 2013 Herman went to sleep and woke up in the presence of the Lord. We invision his wife Lorraine and all of his family welcoming him home. Born in and raised in Roodhouse, IL, he was a resident of Cicero, Downers Grove, Chicago and making Morris his home in 1995. A World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. Retired from General Motors Electromotive Division in 1974 after many years of service as a supervisor. Herman was the Grand American Handicap Champion of 1967 and was also an Illinois Trap Shooters Association Hall of Fame inductee in 2009. A member of the Medinah Shriners, the Morris Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Chicago, Hinsdale Masonic Lodge #934 AF&AM, Marseilles Masonic Lodge #417 AF&AM, Wilmington Masonic Lodge #208 AF&AM, Braidwood Masonic Lodge #704 AF&AM, Mazon Masonic Lodge # 826, Men in Brotherhood Lodge #1178, American Legion Post # 80 in Downers Grove, Moose Lodge #1535 in Downers Grove, Downers Grove Sportsman Club in Morris, IL and the Golden G.M.'s. Preceded by his wife, Lorraine (Svoboda) Welch (2012) whom Herman was married to for 65 years and one brother, Raymond Welch. Survived by his loving sister, Naydene (late Warren) Massey of Champaign, IL; one niece, Rebecca (Robert) Esslinger of Champaign, IL; one nephew, Warren (Christine) Massey of Hilton Head Island, SC; his devoted caregiver and friend, Katie Pilarski of Morris; one aunt and many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral Services for Herman F. Welch will be Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. As it was Herman's request, Cremation Rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations to We Care of Grundy County 520 W. Illinois Avenue, Morris, IL 60450 in his name would be appreciated. Inurnment will take place immediately following his funeral service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Navy.
