Age 73. Peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home following a courageous battle with multi system organ failure. Born in Joliet and a lifelong Joliet area resident. He retired after over 39 years of service, as a foreman of the Street Department for the City of Joliet. A member of the Old Timers Baseball Association and the Moran Athletic Club. Former member of the Eastside Athletic Club.
Preceded by his wife, Beatrice M. (nee Hayducak) Hazer; his parents, James T. and Frances (nee Widlowski) Hazer.
Survived by three sisters, Mary Lou (Edward) Drysch of Shorewood, Bernadine (the late James) Caldwell of Rosemont, IL, and Charlene (James) Rogers of Pennsylvania; one brother, Thomas (Dorothy) Hazer, Sr. of Florida; three nieces, Julie (Sean) Schubert, Lori (Mark) Walsh and Melissa (Shawn) Finley; eight nephews, Robert (Patricia) Drysch, Michael (Paula) Drysch, Brian Caldwell, Jeffrey Caldwell, Thomas (Jami) Hazer, Jr., Eric Rogers, Joey (Lauren) Rogers and Kenneth (Heather) Rogers; 10 great-nieces, Kristen, Erin, Britney, Olivia, Ava, Addison, Annabelle, Morgan, Kelsey, Ava and Mia; eight great-nephews, Matthew, Ryan, Jaiden, Chase, Justin, Tyler, Ryan and Caleb; and many friends, and just to name a few, Bob Eickhoff, Jim Greenan, Bill Ross, Bob Trizna, Greg Sallese and his gas station buddies, those he spent time with and a host of other friends also survive.
Funeral Services for James F. Hazer will be Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. from Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to St. Ambrose Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment S.S. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Masses in his name, donations to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or contributions to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 in his memory would be appreciated.
