David B. Klimek
Age 95. Passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center.
Born July 6, 1919 in Joliet, IL to the late Stephen and Magdalene (Jahelka) Klimek, he was a lifelong resident of Joliet, and graduate of Joliet Township High School. He was an Army veteran of W.W.II, and had the distinction of serving as a security specialist for both General Eisenhower and General MacArthur.
Prior to the war, Dave worked with the 673rd Michigan Company of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Following the war, he became a carpenter and worked many years for Berti & Sons Construction. He was a proud member of the Carpenters Union, Moran Athletic Club, Holy Cross Parish, and Cantigny VFW Post #367.
Surviving are his three children, Gerald (Joan) Klimek of Tipton, IN, Claudine (Michael) Roderick of Morris, and Ronald (Gerald Cholewa) Klimek of Oak Park; three grandchildren, Benjamin (Beth) Klimek, Katie Klimek and Richard "R.J." Roderick; one sister, Genevieve (late Ralph) Hertko-Houck of Joliet; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa (nee Ksiazak) Klimek; second wife, Marie (nee Vella) (Matlak) Klimek; his parents; his siblings, Joseph Klimek, Helen Ward, Aloysious Klimek, Phyllis Klimek, Mark Klimek and Michael Klimek; and a stepson, Steven Matlak.
Funeral Services for David B. Klimek will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to Holy Cross Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials to Boys Town, 14100 Crawford St., Boys Town, NE 68010 would be appreciated. Visitation Wednesday, 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. For information (815) 741-5500.
