Obituary of Samuel Chirich
Samuel J. Chirich, Sr.
Age 70. On Saturday, October 18, 2014 Sam went home to be with the Lord. Born in Chicago to the late Sam and Theresa (Slobodnik) Chirich. He resided in Joliet most of his life. Retired from Caterpillar Inc. in 1997 following over 37 years of service. An avid bowler for 50 years, bowling with the Wednesday Evening Alibi/Tavern Leagues and the Nighthawks Friday Morning League. Member of the Joliet Area Bowling Association since 1992, serving as vice president and treasurer along with multiple other committees. He was inducted into the Joliet Area Bowling Hall Of Fame just last year. In addition, he achieved a perfect 300 game. Member of Joliet Moose Lodge #300 for 44 years and the Moran A.C. A former volunteer firefighter with the Channahon Fire Department as well as a manager and coach with the Troy Baseball Association for 10 years. Sam enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and playing with the grandchildren.
Survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joyce (Siddon) Chirich of Joliet; two sons, Sam (Beth) Chirich, Jr. of Decatur and Tom (Cindy) Chirich of Joliet; grandchildren, Johnathon, Megan, Tyler and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Alex and Davina; nieces, Mary Beth and DeAnn (Jim); great uncle of Jami, Ryan, John Jr. and Jeffrey; brother-in-law of Carol (Rocco) and Frank (June); and dear friends, Bill and Judy Vessel.
Sam left a final gift to those in need by donating any viable tissues through the Gift of Hope of Illinois that may better the lives of others.
As it was Sam's request, Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Family will receive all friends and relatives on Thursday from 3-7 p.m. with St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rockdale Holy Name Society conducting prayers at 3:30 p.m. For more information: (815) 741-5500 or www.fredcdames.com
