Although I mostly have only known Irene through the stories shared by her son, Dennis, I did have the pleasure of sharing a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with Mr. & Mrs. and Wayne Dziekan, along with my friend Dennis, at the Hillside Restaurant in DeKalb, IL a few years back. It was a wonderful meal and I appreciated the opportunity to finally put some 'faces with names' for the Dziekan family. Irene seemed very happy at the dinner, very enthusiastic about the meal options, and I recall much laughter and exchange of family stories. They were all very welcoming to me as a friend of Dennis's, and I appreciated the chance to have a sense of 'family' for the holiday. Clearly her warm and engaging presence will be greatly missed by her family and friends. I "light a candle" here in honor of a long life, well lived.
