Sister Julie Ann Borer, OSF (1926 - 2015) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois, on August 12, 2015.
She was born in Lindsay, Nebraska, to the late Bertha (Beirmann) and Phillip Borer. One of twelve children, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ralph, Maurice, Richard, Ervin and Francis and sister, Dolores Kuhlman. She is survived by her brothers Elmer (Rita) of Atkinson, Nebraska, Gerald (Susan) of Petersburg, NE, Harold (Arlene) of Omaha, NE, and sisters, Rose Marie Nelson of Grand Island, NE, and Lucille (Bernard) Kuhlman of Petersburg, NE. Sister Julie Ann was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 71 years.
Before entering religious life, Sister Julie Ann was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Albion, NE. She attended St. John's Parish School and the District School in Albion, NE. She attended St. Francis Academy (Joliet Catholic Academy), Joliet, Illinois. She receive an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from Joliet Junior College.
Sister Julie Ann began her ministry in the field of culinary arts in 1948 at Our Lady of Mercy in Granville, Ohio and St. Peter in Mansfield, Ohio. She ministered at St. Francis Convent, College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis), Guardian Angel Home all in Joliet, Illinois and St. Francis de Sales and SS Peter and Paul in Chicago, Illinois. She was Director of Food Service at the Oblate House of Studies in Omaha, NE and ministered in Health Care at Our Lady of Lourdes in Norfolk, NE and at her family's residences in Petersburg, Albion, and Humphrey, NE before returning to Joliet in 2001.
The wake for Sister Julie Ann will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Thursday morning, August 20, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois.
