Nancy L. Carder
(nee Trevena)
Age 73, of Glenview, IL and formerly Joliet, IL, passed Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Highland Park Hospital with her family by her side.
Born October 28, 1941 to the late Norma (nee Lee) and Thomas Trevena in Joliet where she was raised and educated, a graduate of Joliet Central High School and Silver Cross Hospital School of Nursing.
Nancy was an honorably discharged U.S. Army Veteran. She retired from the Army Nurse Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel serving in Desert Storm, Grenada and Panama. She was a member of the 801st Combat Support Hospital stationed at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois. She was a member of Evanston American Legion Post #42 and served as past commander for many years. Also served as past 7th District Commander of the American Legion. A member of Voiture 220 of the 40 and 8 Honor Society of the American Legion. She was employed for many years as a compassionate Registered Nurse specializing in trauma nursing. She found peace, tranquility and enjoyment in the art and practice of quilting and sewing.
Survived by her loving husband Major Micheal "Mike" Carder (retired) of Glenview, IL; two sons, Thomas McGowan and David McGowan, Jr., both of California and one granddaughter; one aunt, Lorraine "Mickey" (Robert) Draznik of Joliet; one niece, Tristen (Max) McGhee; one nephew, Thomas (Sandy) Cuddidy; and one cousin, Richard (Kris) Lee.
Preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Thomas M. Trevena and one aunt, Frances Mitok.
Funeral services for Nancy Carder will be held Friday, August 28, 2015, 10:00 am at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds. Joliet, IL. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL where full military honors will be accorded under the auspices of the United States Army. Visitation Thursday 4-8 pm.
