Gordon R. Clay
Age 74. Saturday March, 29, 2008 at his late residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Streator, IL where he was raised by his grandmother, Zella Lord-Houltram. A resident of Joliet/Plainfield most of his adult life. A U.S. Navy Veteran, serving aboard the USS Betelgenso. Retired from General Foam Corp. in 2000 as midwest sales manager. Former owner/operator of Clay's Carpet Service. Former member of American Legion Marne Post #13. Member of Judson Memorial Baptist Church. An avid golfer and card player who loved to travel. He thoroughly enjoyed entertaining his business clients. His family will always remember him for his infectious sense of humor and the ability to make people laugh. He was also an amateur pilot.
Surviving is his loving wife of 26 years, Darlene (Boyd) Clay of Plainfield; six children, Paula (Dan) Zoran, Craig (Lisa) Clay both of Beafort, SC, Gary (fiance, Lisa) Clay of Piper City, IL, Tammy (Ronald) Kurtenbach of Plainfield, David (Melissa) Coder of Stafford, VA and Kristy (Brian) Bixenman of Plainfield; 22 grandchildren and one great-grandson; also survived by his faithful companion, Minnie.
Preceded in death by his son, Randy Clay (2004); granddaughter, Kaetlynn Clay (1999); parents, Ray and Audrey (Turner) Clay.
Funeral services for Gordon R. Clay will be Wednesday, April 2, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Rev. Kevin Comfort officiating. Interment Phillips Cemetery, Streator, IL with military honors to be conducted by the U.S. Navy. Visitation Tuesday 4-8 p.m. at:
