Obituary of Helen Wheeler

Helen M. Wheeler (nee Horn) Age 91, passed away peacefully, Tuesday September 22, 2015 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. Born in Joliet, she was a long time Joliet area resident and a former resident of Springfield, MO. A graduate of St. Peter Lutheran School, Class of 1938 and Joliet Township High School, Class of 1942. She was employed at the American Institute of Laundry for over 32 years and retired from Home Savings and Loan. Helen was a lifelong and active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Merritt Wheeler (1999); her parents, Charles and Marie Horn; her sister-in-law, Marialice Horn; and her great-niece, Annie Phillips. Survived by her brother, Alvin Horn of South Elgin; one stepdaughter, Dora Mae (Alan) Lemke of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Helen M. Wheeler will be held Thursday, September 24, 2015 with a visitation hour for residents and staff beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. Visitation and services will continue Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 310 N. Broadway St., Joliet, where she will lie-in-state from 10:30 a.m. until services begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.
