James M. Alsip
"Papa Jim"
Age 58, of Channahon, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center, with his family by his side following a courageous three week battle. Born July 18, 1950 in Metropolis, IL, he was an Army veteran of Vietnam, serving with the 101st Airborne Division. He retired as a computer services technician for Caterpillar, Inc. after 37 years of service.
Jim was a loving husband and a great father, whose favorite activities were spoiling his grandchildren, and spending time with his faithful canine companion, Todd. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, and home remodeling and repair.
Survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Patricia (nee Hutton); two sons, Curtis (Kelly) Alsip of Plainfield and Corey (Danielle) Alsip of Joliet; three grandchildren, Evan, Delaney and Jillian; his mother, Eva Alsip of Rockdale; two brothers, Terry "Mart" (Cathy) Alsip of Shelbyville and Kenneth "Randy" (Amber) Alsip of Leland, MI; two sisters, Sherry (Al) Butterfield of Shorewood and Jessica "Anne" (late Dennis) Blazekovich of Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Grace Hutton of Coal City; and his best friend, Robert DePratt of Florida.
Preceded in death by his father, William Alsip; father-in-law, Clarence Hutton; and one great-nephew, Jake Loucks.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the SICU at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care. They also thank the many blood donors whose gift made such a difference in his care, and would like to encourage others to do the same.
Funeral Services for James M. Alsip will be Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 3-8 p.m. at:
