Obituary of Severina Soto

Soto, Severina (nee Munoz) Age 99, of Rockdale, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 26, 2016 with her loving family at her side. She had been blessed to spend nearly her entire 99 years at home, spending only a short time under hospice care at Sunnyhill Nursing Home. Born November 8, 1916 in Guadalajara, Mexico, she was a Rockdale resident for over 66 years, and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. Severina was known for her delicious and authentic Mexican cooking, and loved entertaining and serving the family dinners. She had a special place in her heart for mariachi music, and will be remembered for her gardening skills and her beautiful flowers. Preceded by her husband of over 50 years, Librado Soto (1986); her daughter, Mary Boyd; her parents; three brothers; eight sisters; and one grandson in infancy. Survived by two sons, Gabriel (Marian) Soto of Joliet and Henry (Lynn) Soto of Morris, IL; two daughters, Mary Ellen Soto of Joliet and Mary Esther (Wesley G.) Shaw of Morris, IL; 13 grandchildren, Robert (Janet) Soto, Linda (Kenneth) Kokalj, David (Kelly) Soto, Phillip (LuAnn) Boyd, Deborah (Tom) Shenk, Gregory (Pamela) Larsen, Brian Larsen, Lisa (John) McLuckie, Lynette (Paul) Rivera, Wesley M. (Sara Olson) Shaw, Jennifer (John) Huston, Ross (Blair Turner) Soto, and Ryan (Sarah Pettry) Soto; 24 great-grandchildren and twin great-grandchildren on the way; and ten great-great-granchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral Services for Severina Soto will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday, 3-8 p.m., and Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
