Obituary of Sister OSF
Sister M. Cherubim Czahor, OSF
Of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, on February 28, 2008, at the age of 91. She was a member of the Joliet Franciscans for 74 years. Sister Cherubim was born in Chicago, baptized Josephine. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Marcella (Gorczyca) Czahor; sister Marie Korus and brothers Frank and Stanley. She is survived her sister Sophie Wisocky, nieces and nephews and her Joliet Franciscan sisters.
Sister Cherubim graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the College of St. Francis, Joliet, and a Master of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University. After a few years of teaching in grade schools, she became an art teacher in high schools in Illinois and Ohio, including St. Francis Academy in Joliet until 1975. She later taught art at Holy Family School and gave private art lessons. She taught English as a Second Language at Joliet Township High School for 10 years before retiring at Our Lady of Angels.
The wake will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Monday, March 3, 2008, from 2:00 - 6:45 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be Tuesday, March 4, at 8:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Angels to Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Ill.
