Obituary of Betty Lu Harms
Betty Lu Harms (nee Davidson) passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 with her loving family by her side. She was under the care of Joliet Area Community Hospice at their residential center.
Betty was born February 11, 1921 in Hoopeston, IL to Leslie and Maude (Ransom) Davidson. She grew up in Hoopeston and attended Hoopeston High School and the University of Illinois, Champaign where she met her husband, Glenn R. Harms, Sr. They were married during the early days of WWII. She was a loving partner in the careers of her husband until his untimely death in June of 1977.
Betty was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed supporting high school band and soloist competitions while residing at Plato Center, IL during the 60's. She also served as a volunteer at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL for those years and accumulated nearly 2000 hours of service. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Plato Center and later Mount Carroll, IL and was a member of their adult choirs and circles for many years.
Mrs. Harms was very community minded having served on various boards including Central of Burlington Band Boosters, Carroll County Board, Carroll County 708, FEMA, Hotel/Motel Tax and CASA boards. She also served for many years on the Blackhawk Waterways Tourism Board as well as the Tri-County Tourism board of NW Illinois. Betty held many offices within the Republican Women of Carroll County as well as serving on the State of Illinois Republican Women board.
Preceded in death were her parents, husband Glenn, Sr. and son Richard. Surviving are son Glenn, Jr., (Joanne), grandson Jeffrey (Rachel), granddaughter Jennifer Knudson (Stanley) and three great granddaughters, Emma, Elise and Georgina.
Private family services were held at Cornerstone Methodist Church, Plato Center (Elgin), IL with internment at Plato Center Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Fred C.
