Jonathan Flakes

Obituary of Jonathan Flakes

Jonathan “Neal” Flakes, age 49, of Plainfield, passed away suddenly of a massive heart attack on Saturday, October 7, 2017 after several attempts to resuscitate in the emergency room of Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.

Born July 2, 1968 in Flint, MI, he was the son of Joe and Mattie Flakes.  He was a graduate of Northern High School in Flint, MI and worked in fabrication as a laser welder for Fab Werks, Inc., Crest Hill, IL.

The man, the myth, the legend we were all fortunate enough to have met and known throughout the years: He did not pretend to know what love was for everyone, but for him it was taking the time to get to know someone, it was trusting someone enough to open up about themselves, it was feeling comfortable and safe in the presence of one another.  Love was a safe haven which we all felt in Neal’s presence.

Neal loved to sit back and enjoy the pure calmness of nature while fishing.  He loved to watch sports and root for his all loving Bears and Cubs teams.  He enjoyed a good debate to prove his teams were superior.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Melissa C. Flakes-Truchinski; children, Alexandra, Blake, Antwon, Mercedes, Jonathan, Markesse, and David; father, Joe Flakes; brother, Brian; and a large extended family of grandchildren, mother-in-law, fathers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie (nee Scott) Flakes and sister, Michelle Flakes.

A visitation to celebrate Neal’s life will be held Friday, October 13, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet. Cremation rites will be accorded following services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to be used to according to the wishes of the family would be appreciated.
